Las Vegas Good Sams

Linda Woolacott
Las Vegas, NV

The Las Vegas Good Sam Chapter (The Fun Chapter) has been an active chapter since 1978. We are a mixed group of campers with some retirees and some still working, some families have kids and some don't, some families have pets (mainly dogs) and some don't, some are more active and some are less active. Some of our outings are as close as the lake and sometimes we go farther afield up to about 200 miles from LV. We do some camping in RV parks with hook-ups and some dry camping. Generally our group doesn’t do many structured activities, however, we like to explore and take advantage of what is available in the area where we are camping. We are pretty laid back and enjoy a campfire and visiting. Families volunteer to be host for an outing and pick the date and location of the outing and the Saturday potluck theme. With our group, you can attend up to three outings as guests so you and the group can check out the "fit". During three outings you can generally see who we are, where we camp, and what we like to do. This group feels like a 2nd family to most of us. So whether you join a chapter just as incentive to get out and use your RV more often, or for the camaraderie, of a group, or to try new places, we hope you will check us out.

Celebrating our 37th Anniversary (2016)

April 2018 Newsletter

The February outing was to be hosted by Jerry and Linda. Unfortunately, the night before the outing, they had a serious water leak at their home and weren’t able to attend. Vice President Dennis took over with assistance from Glenn and Cynthia and made arrangements for the meeting hall and scheduling the activities.

There were 13 rigs attending. For the first time in quite a while we had no visitors.

Glenn went to a great deal of work to set up a big screen on the side of their trailer and showed movies to the group on Friday and Saturday nights. The movies were very appropriate for this group – “RV” with Robin Williams and “The Long Long Trailer” with Lucy and Desi. Lots of fun! Popcorn was also served.

Our Saturday potluck theme was “One Dish Wonders of the World”. This was a cook-off to choose the dishes for next month’s Rally. Edie and Diane were the winners. Congratulations ladies!

Sunday morning breakfast was enjoyed at the Café at the Resort..

Al and Barb hosted the outing which they coordinated with the Good Sam Club Rally.

15 rigs attended with 13 member rigs and 2 guest rigs. Jeanne and Robert, and Terry joined as members this month. Our new members were presented with their “Chapter Spoons.”

The weather was fabulous and balloons ascended two the three days. The morning coffee and donuts served by the Good Sam Western Region were wonderful. RV Fantasy Tours sponsored breakfast burritos on Saturday morning (you didn’t have to get up early to enjoy!)

Campfires were provided by Jerry and Linda every evening except one due to high winds.

The Chili Cookoff took place on Saturday at 3:00 P.M. and 11 dishes were in the running. Everything from chicken chili to chili for fire-breathing dragons was presented. In the end, only three would place. 1st place – Myrna and Bill 2nd place –Susan and Bill 3rd place – Christine

Barb made the cutest chili pepper prizes that displayed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prize lettered on the side.

Everyone had a great time and many just combined several chili dishes for their meal.

Balloons landed in the campground on Sunday afternoon and Stella got a great photo of one coming down right over Penny’s rig!

Everyone attending this event contributed to charitable organizations. Last year $400,000 was donated to many charitable organizations in the Lake Havasu City community.

May 2015 - Grand Canyon Caverns in conjunction with the Good Sam Western regional mini-rally.

Attending were Bill and Susan, Jerry and Linda, Darren and Roxanne and new members Bob and Barb (Linda’s brother and sister-in-law).

Although our chapter group was small, there were lots of fellow Good Sam members from all around the Western Region, including a small group of our friends from Pahrump. Some of our group arrived Thursday and some arrived on Friday.

Unfortunately the weather was unseasonably cold and rainy, with the drive to the Caverns being a little exhausting with fighting the cross wind. One member had an especially difficult driving time with rig problems as well. But the weather didn’t stop the group from enjoying the Grand Canyon Cavern’s tour (new to most of us) as well as great meals in the Cavern’s grill/restaurant. The tour was interesting and we all enjoyed it, bringing back some great pictures. Friday and Saturday night dinners were provided by the rally and were very good. Breakfast was then provided on Sunday morning so we didn’t have to cook much. The remaining times we congregated inside the Woolacott and Bledsoe/Woolacott rigs and had a fun time catching up and playing card and domino games. Since we didn’t have to cook many meals, we concentrated on making really good snacks and these were plentiful. Sunday was a beautiful day for the drive back and we were able to enjoy the scenery that we couldn’t catch on the way up.

April 2015 – Temple View RV Park St George, Utah

Jerry and Linda hosted the outing. There were 12 member rigs and 3 guest rigs attending.

Another record for attendance!

Bob and Barbara were welcomed as members in the chapter and presented with their “Chapter Spoon.” Welcome Bob and Barb

On Friday afternoon, the RV Park provided an ice cream social for our chapter, with vanilla ice cream and a variety of toppings. Our potluck was held on Saturday with Jerry and Linda providing lots and lots of ham. The usual fantastic array of side dishes and desserts was enjoyed by all.

A large group enjoyed dinner Thursday evening at Pancho and Lefty’s Mexican Restaurant. Happy Birthday Bill E

Friday was spent visiting and playing games in the clubhouse.

The “main event” took place Saturday morning with a Miniature Golf competition.

March 2015 – Nevada State Spring Rally at Treasures in Pahrump NV

*WOW* A big congratz and thanks goes out to the Nevada Good Sam State Staff for putting on a great Spring Rally. This was a fun one.

LVGS took the Chapter Challenge Flag for the third time straight and winning the Spirit Flag FOR THE FIRST TIME to make things even greater.

We took in 15 ribbons for 78 points to capture the Spirit Flag. Participation in the games was fantastic. Go LVGS  We also took third place in Beanbag Baseball. (There are no points given for this event.)

We played Taylor Trivia Thursday night, with live music provided by Bill and Jack between questions. Cabaret night on Friday was a lot of fun also. We had a guest appearance Thursday by Dana and the Sametts doing a couple of their favorite tunes. Jerry (Slider) stopped by Friday night and sang Chantilly Lace and a special Earth Angel for his wife Linda.

Some of our Canadian guests presented a couple of hilarious skits.

State Staff took a new approach on dinner and did a super job of presentation and quality. (It was excellent). LVGS had twice the number of members at the 2015 Rally as we did at the 2014 Rally.

At our meeting on Sunday morning, we welcomed Clinton and Diane Arnett into the chapter. We’re glad you were finally able to join us.

February 2015 Lake Mead Village

Dennis and Gerry hosted the outing at Lake Mead RV Village. There were 12 rigs attending, as well as 3 members visiting for the day, Pat Ott, Al and Barb Jackson and Donnie and Marlyn Smith. We also had the following visitors:

Gerry's Dad John and his lady friend, Willie, Gerry’s sister, Joanne. Also, Ron and Anne’s grandson, Cole visited on Friday. Thursday was spent setting up and visiting with a campfire in the evening. On Friday, some of the group drove in to Boulder City and enjoyed dinner at Dillinger’s Restaurant.

The potluck theme was “Foods U.S. Presidents were known for or their favorite foods.” We had quite an interesting combination of foods.

Bill and Dana told about the prices for chapter T-shirts and polo shirts. Bill will see if he can get sample T-shirts before the group makes a decision about purchasing. There was also discussion about purchasing chapter badges. Richard Wellington will collect member’s suggestions and present them at the next meeting

January 2015 - Lake Havasu in conjunction with Arizona Good Sam State Staff year

There were 11 member rigs present and 1 guest rig. Guests were Bob and Barb W. and Bob.

Most folks took advantage of the Festival, getting up early to see the Morning Ascension and then enjoying the Evening Glow event. There were lots and lots of food vendors as well as other booths selling a variety of items. There was also live music to enjoy. During each day we enjoyed the many skydivers and biplanes

Bob and Edie hosted the Tailgate Party potluck on Saturday afternoon. They provided the hamburgers, brats, hot dogs and buns for everyone with lots of extra sides dishes and desserts.

Some evenings we enjoyed campfires and visiting. Sunday morning potluck breakfast was great as usual. Some folks headed home with a few staying an extra day.
